Let the Madness Begin

Are you working hard or hardly working? That’s the question of the day when March Madness begins. Regular season fans suddenly have to compete for bandwidth against all of us who love the underdog, the Cinderella story, the smack-talkin’ and the chance to upset the bracket balance by beating avid sports fans with picks that were based on mascots.

If you’re listening to audio of the games (because NO ONE would be streaming video at work), are you listening for the love of the game or love of the madness … and what’s your tried and true method for making your picks?

PS: You do know about the “Boss button” right? Go Pitt!

A sleep tracker… really?

I’ve been exploring Web 2.0 – trying to get a handle on blogging and social media networking and where all the time it takes to do these things is supposed to come from. (There’s still only 24 hours in a day, right?) Recently, I ran into a Web 2.0 app that really made me say “huh?”.

Yawnlog.com Yes, a site that tracks when you sleep. But, of course, it relies on you to wake up every day and enter your latest sleep data… the time you went to sleep, the time you woke up, and sleep quality (that’s optional). Then it graphs out the results so that you can see how far behind you are on your sleep.

Now, I did sign up – just to see what it was all about, but I have to wonder if I’ll even find time to sleep after I’ve updated my status on Facebook and MySpace, checked out what new on LinkedIn, written another blog entry, tweeted around for a while – not to mention folding laundry, fixing dinner and watching my TIVO’d shows with one finger on the fast forward button. It will probably be time to leave for work.

Will someone please design an app that doesn’t require me to do anything?
