The debate tweets on…

Just how important is Twitter to marketing? According to a public radio newscast I heard recently, it’s twitteriffic. Just ask the owner of Kogi Korean BBQ-To-Go,  In a city dominated by the commute, a tweeted location turns into a neighborhood block party as fans and followers of Kogi receive location tweets for the rolling Korean Taco Trucks. And business is booming. Of course, it helps that the food apparently rocks.

But I think the sense of community – one that reaches outside the boundaries of a cell phone or computer screen, is exciting too. It is proof that the art of conversation isn’t dead.  After all, if you and all your Twitter compadres decide to meet at the Kogi truck, I’m pretty sure the conversation won’t be limited to 140 characters per person.

Guest Blogger – Networking

It’s official. I’m back on the networking circuit again after a few years outta the mix. Searching the Web for the precious “calendar of events” on all of the community organizations, groups, chambers and industry associations in the Miami Valley. I found a Web site I felt needed some recognition. The Dayton Creative Syndicate (DCS)  Web site is very clever, innovative and well-planned. Go figure, creative people are the coolest. http://creativesyndicate.org

With one quick download you can import the calendar (iCal for the Mac lovers), sync your Google calendar or get an RSS feed. They have made it simple to mix networking in with your existing work and personal calendar. It prevents people like me from double booking yourself and so easy how can you not attend?

In addition, they are all over the place with network pages on Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter, Coroflot, Dayton Marketing Community (DMC) and Vimeo (www.vimeo.com). This group seriously knows how to network and reach their target demo.

Chambers and other organizations take note – this is a great way to promote yourselves! Share information and events and do it using technology, good ole’ word of mouth and very little dinero. Share your thoughts on this first blog for me here at Nova. More to come! – Jennifer

Advertising and the Stimulus Package

Thanks to my DVR, I rarely have to watch television commercials unless my husband has control of the remote. When I do watch commercials, I find myself picking them apart, analyzing how they use all the marketing weapons in their arsenal to target us—whether we’re Baby Boom or Generation XYZ consumers.

Yet, only last night, I found myself coveting a Lincoln MKS, when I have a perfectly serviceable (and paid off) car sitting in my garage. Ground control to Major Tom… I really want it!

And the Visa Debit Aquarium Commercial has a similar affect on my psyche. The Moody Blues take me back to my college days—when I could do whatever I wanted on a Tuesday afternoon—an time of infinite possibilities that would culminate in… taking kids to the aquarium in a Lincoln?  Wait a minute! I almost got suckered in.

Now, I understand what’s been missing from the bailouts… a good soundtrack. Money by Pink Floyd and Who’s Gonna Drive You Home by the Cars come to mind. Any thoughts?
