This week, we’re featuring Nova co-owner, account executive, and all-around good guy Larry Knapp. We caught him in his natural environment, “The Playhouse”—where he and his friends hang out and jam, to ask him about a few of his Favorite Things:

We’re just one day away from the day of the turkey feast, which means we’re two days away from one of the biggest shopping days of the year – Black Friday. Some of us at Nova are pretty veteran at this whole shopping thing (though not as crazy as the above Target lady), so we thought we’d share our 9 tips with you.
1. Check out DealNews.com before you go. They break down Black Friday deals by product category so you can see which store has the best available deals on the items you need.
2. Find a designated driver – no parking worries, just get dropped at the door and call when you’re ready for pick-up. Ideally, someone who can be bribed with coffee & donuts so they don’t run off too far.
3. Carry a big garbage bag with you. If the store runs out of carts, you’ll still have a place to carry your stuff. But make sure store employees can tell you’re not trying to shoplift. The last thing you want is to be tackled to the ground by security in the middle of the mayhem. Read more

Today I got to take a field trip away from the office to see the fruits of something we’ve been working on with Dayton International Airport. They were launching their “Flying Is Fun Again” campaign to highlight the benefits that the airport brings to travelers and the economics of the Southwest Ohio region. I took some photos of Ace, the airport’s new mascot (created by Nova Art Director Bryan Strunk), and our own Rose Schulz, who headed up Nova’s work on this. Read more

We take our Halloween costume competition seriously here at Nova. This year, Bill Rieger came in first with his brilliant Beetlejuice costume – complete with white face paint. Congrats to him.
Unfortunately, Bill’s capture of this year’s crown meant that someone had to come in second. The unlucky one in 2011 happened to be designer James Graves (aka “Grapes”). This week’s video is a documentation of the runner-up’s dejection in the wake of his loss:

Earlier this week, Twitter launched a new website called Twitter Stories that’s an interesting take on what could otherwise be a bland case studies/testimonials page.
The company is curating stories from its userbase that tell how the service has positively affected their lives – in both text and video format. Tweeters can submit their own stories by using the hashtag #TwitterStories or @replying @TwitterStories, an account from which the company is actively responding. Twitter says they’ll be updating the stories on the website monthly. The current selection includes tales of organ donation, book store salvation, and fashion promotion.
For all the awe it inspires, the whole site is really a very simple answer to a question all businesses should be able to answer about themselves: “What makes our story special?” Check out the video below to see how one man helped his parents’ bookstore from going under by using his Twitter account. How would you tell your company’s story?

Great news from one of our clients this weekend: breast cancer survivor organization Pink Ribbon Girls were selected as one of 20 finalists in the Pink Well Challenge. They will be receiving $45,000 for passing the first phase of the multi-part challenge! They were told that they had a great voting score in the Ellen Degeneres Pink Well Award for one of the smaller seed foundations, so thank you for everyone that voted — it all mattered.
Needless to say, Pink Ribbon Girls are tickled PINK!
We’ll keep you updated here on Pink Ribbon Girls’ progress in the Pink Well Challenge – more news to come!

It’s nearly October already (I know! Where is the year going??), which as you may know is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Incidentally, two of our clients’ work ties in very closely to this event and we’re really excited about the things they have going on!
Standard Register has just launched a new service, called Celebrate Health, a turn-key solution for celebrating health observances and employee recognition days. Celebrate Health makes it easy for healthcare facility administrators and marketing managers to create and obtain branded promotional and educational materials related to health events the facility sponsors. We just launched their brand new website, which includes an animated tour (guided by site host “Charlie”) through various health-observances and the materials ordering process, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month. We’re very excited about this solution for the healthcare industry and our opportunity we had to play a part in it! Read more
