Going Green
January, 2008

Going Green can put you in the black.
Going green can mean much more to your business than the chance to jump on the environmentally-friendly bandwagon; it's proven to bring bottom-line benefits too. That can be especially true when it comes to producing your printed communications. But you don't have to be a sustainability expert – or even a printing expert – to start seeing green results.

Ask your Nova account executive about the ins and outs of conserving resources – and your budget.

Showcase your commitment.
As demand for social responsibility increases, so has the growth of third-party certification programs that evaluate and report on the environmental performance of companies and their products. And organizations that want to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability can showcase their efforts by including certification marks or logos on their communications or packaging.

Among some of the most recognizable logos are:

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – confirms that paper products are manufactured from certified mills and responsibly-managed forests.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) – certifies that paper products are considered more beneficial because they are made from sustainable fibers.

Green-e.org – indicates that a product is made with electricity generated from certified wind power.

Green Seal Certified – shows products have undergone rigorous testing and evaluation.

These logos – and those of nearly 50 more certification programs – can help identify your business and your products as environmentally preferable, distinguishing you from your competitors. Nova can help you sort through the certification options available to you.

Companies across a wide variety of industries have already taken steps to improve their sustainability efforts, including:

Wal-Mart – Retrofitting its stores with skylights and switching to compact fluorescents.

HSBC – installing energy-efficient lighting.

NBC Universal – Showcased a week of "green-themed" programming.

Xerox – Developed new business paper that uses less wood pulp, water and chemicals.

Silicon Valley – Fifteen companies agree to cut electricity use and purchase plug-in hybrid vehicles.
